ESKADENIA Software, Amman, Jordan, July 2009
The Information Technology Students Activity Fair was held under the auspices of H.E. the Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Mr. Bassem Roussan, HE Dr. Adnan Badran and a distinguished delegation from the academic and public sectors who attended the opening of the fair with a significant presence of leaders of ICT in Jordan.
Executive Director of ESKADENIA Software, Doha Abdelkhaleq, addressed the audience at the opening ceremony with a speech that highlighted the progress in the efforts put towards linking between the academia and the private ICT sector. She also emphasised on the market’s needs for a high-calibre of graduates that excel in their fields of speciality and have a high level of communication skills and command of the English language as well as special IT certificates and practical training. “Such a calibre is what the ICT sector is mostly in need of to achieve its strategic economical objectives and position Jordan competitively on the global IT map”, said Ms Abdelkhaleq.
In her speech, Ms Abdelkhaleq also highlighted how the company benefits from the MoICT’s Graduates and Internship Program (GIP) and ESKADENIA’s active engagement in the program. She also recommended the starting of Employment Services/Counselling Units (ES-U) inside the universities to help out graduates in their pursuit for employment. She also tackled the issue of the universities adaptabilities and the relationship with a strong Ministry of Higher Education and accreditation counsel.
At the conclusion of her speech, Ms Abdelkhaleq commended the progressive steps taken by the University of Petra and the effort it is putting towards taking this educational pillar into continuously renovated levels of performance and achievements. The flexibility needed to accelerate the decision making processes at the Jordanian universities in order to adapt to the market, can be only achieved through gradual re-structuring and by exploring new ways throughout the educational system production cycle.
About Information Technology Students Activity Fair (ITSAF)
The objectives of ITSAF are based on HM King Abdullah the Second's vision to enable Jordan to be one of the leading countries in IT development. This can take place by means of preparing young personnel who are equipped with modern and up-to-date technology. The Fair aims to offer a valuable opportunity for IT students, at all levels, to exhibit the projects which they had performed during the previous academic year, and the skills they gained, before IT professionals and experts, particularly the representatives of local and international companies. Accordingly, such an activity would connect the participating academic institutions, including the academic staff and students, with the IT industry in one hand, and create the spirit of competition among students and universities on the other. Furthermore, ITSA also includes seminars and an exhibition for IT companies.
